10 Halloween Costume Ideas Inspired by Your Favorite Badass Women
Don’t let not having a costume scare the fun out of your Halloween night. Instead, try one our ten lady-boss inspired costumes that you most likely already have in your closet.
1. Sandy from Grease
- a pair black leather pants or black leggings,
- a cropped black tank top (off the shoulder is best!)
- a black leather jacket
- some red pumps
You’ll need to pull out the curlers and aquanet for this one! Tightly wrap your hair in heatless curlers the night before to achieve Sandy’s iconic locks. Spray with some extra-hold hairspray the next day and you’ll be set to rock and roll all night!
Sandy’s makeup may be simple, but it's a classic. To recreate it, throw on a gray smokey eye and a bold red lip.
2. Mrs. George from Mean Girls
- light pink matching set (if you don't have a matching set, pink sweatpants and a jacket will work too!)
- white tank top
- blingy necklace
Create Mrs. George’s oh-so-fetch hairstyle by loosely curling your hair, focusing on the ends more so than the top.
Grab your mascara, pink blush, and strawberry lip gloss to finish off this look.
3. Leslie Knope from Parks and Rec.
- any color button up blouse
- a corresponding blazer
- matching dress pants
- large stud earrings
Rock Leslie’s business casual style by adding voluminous curls all around the head and face.
Similar to Mrs. George (they are the same actress after all!), natural makeup will work perfectly for this look.
4. The Cheetah Girls
- a matching tracksuit (bonus points if it's crushed velvet or cheetah print!)
- thick headband
- a belt that totally doesn't match
- big hoop earrings
This is where you get to have a little fun! Galleria and Aqua usually wear their hair straight in the movies while Chanel and Dorinda strut their natural curls. You get to choose, sister!
The Cheetah Girls never go out without a bit of warm-toned eyeshadow and a shiny lip. Throw on a fake lash if you're feeling extra sassy!
5. Wilma Flintstone from The Flintstones
- a white off the shoulder dress OR
- a white off the shoulder top and white skirt
- pearl necklace
Wilma is known for her iconic orange updo. If you don't already have red hair and dying your hair orange for Halloween isn’t in your best interest, this costume can still be pulled off with an easy top knot or messy bun.
There wasn't much for makeup back in the Stone Age. A plain red lip will do for this look.
- any hot pink dress or hot pink top/skirt combo.
- pink pumps
- a pink bag
- giant rhinestone earrings
The glamorous thing about dressing up as Barbie is that you can style yourself however you please, just like you would the doll! For Barbies signature style, opt for a down hairstyle or a high pony.
Sparkly eyeshadow, blush, falsies, and a hot pink lip is a must for Barbie.
7. Holly Golightly (Audrey Hepburn) from Breakfast At Tiffany’s
- black fitted midi dress
- black satin gloves
- large square framed sunglasses
- pearl necklace (or five!)
- rhinestone tiara
- large stud earrings
While Audrey Hepburn’s Holly Golightly may have chosen an elegant updo to wear, it is certainly not the easiest on this list. Her famous hairstyle combines the sleek look of a french twist with the well-known rolled style of the 1940s. I suggest looking up a step-by-step video for this one!
Holly wears a thick brow, natural eyeshadow, winged liner, false lashes, light pink blush, and a light lip to highlight her natural beauty.
8. Taylor Swift
You Belong With Me Taylor (Fearless era)
- white t-shirt with Junior Jewels design on it
- plaid pajama pants
- big frame glasses
Concert Taylor (Red era)
- white long sleeve tops
- black high waisted shorts
- a guitar, of course!
Lover Taylor (Lover era)
- any pastel or pink top
- any pastel or pink bottom OR
- a rainbow sequin skirt
- a yellow top to match
You Belong With Me Costume: Pull your hair into a low side-parted pony, leaving out a few pieces to frame your face. Let your natural curls take over or add a few in with a wide barrel curling iron.
Concert Taylor Costume: Taylor rocked curls all throughout her Red era. Copy her style by adding voluminous curls to your hair. If you have bangs, leave them styled straight on as opposed to parting them.
Lover Costume: Guess what? Taylor brought the bangs to her Lover era too! For this costume, loosely curl your hair for that perfect “I woke up like this” wave. Bonus points if you add blue to your ends!
You Belong With Me Costume: Don’t worry about any special makeup for this one! Your “no makeup” makeup look should work just fine.
Concert Taylor Costume: Along with your usual base, make sure to add Taylors cat-eye eyeliner and a bold red lip (duh!).
Lover Costume: The most important part of this costume is the pink glitter heart around Taylor’s eye. For this youll need pink glitter, vaseline, and a Q-Tip. Start by drawing a heart around your eye with the vaseline and cotton swap. A thick yet clean line will work best. Next, dip your finger into the glitter and pat in onto the line. For extra hold, spray with hairspray.
(p.s. -- how fun would it be to dress up as all 8 of the T-Swift eras with your besties?!)
9. Kimmy Schmidt from Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
- pink jeggings or leggings
- colorful blouse
- yellow cardigan (bonus points for patches!)
- purple backpack
In the series, Kimmy’s hair is very bouncy and voluminous. For this style, use a clamp curling iron and a texture spray to make sure your hair holds all night. Oh, and once again -- if you don't have natural red hair, no worries! This costume will still look amazing.
Kimmy likes to keep it nice and natural. Your everyday glam should work great for this one.
10. Donna Sheridan from Mamma Mia!
- blue flare pants or jeans
- yellow top
- jean jacket or vest
- white closed toed heels or booties
- large gold hoops
In the movies, both Sophie and Donna are styled with crimped waves. If your hair isn't naturally curly, you can recreate this a few different ways. For a heatless option, all you have to do is braid your damp hair into small sections before you go to sleep. When you take the braids out, you should have perfect waves! If you don't have time to let your curls form, you can use a crimping iron to achieve the same look.
Let's be honest, Donna is naturally stunning. To replicate her makeup, dust a light blush along the cheekbones and keep the eyes very light.
