5 Products You NEED for Working From Home While in Quarantine

Staying home is our new normal.  Whether we’d like to admit it or not, it sounded like a good idea at first.  No more morning commute, conference calls in yoga pants, and free snacks all day long.  What's not to love about that?  But now it's starting to get harder to get out of bed, the kids are driving you (only a little) crazy, and the free snacks seem to be calling your name on the hour.

Working from home is hard- especially in trying times like these.  For most, the switch from the cubicle to the home office was almost instant and without much notice.  You may be asking yourself, where did all my motivation go?  or why am I not performing like I used to?  These are totally okay questions to be asking and legit feelings to be having.

Simply Lioness wants you to know that you are not alone!  That's why we've listed some of our most valued products and tips to make working from home a bit easier on the mind and body.

Blue Light Blocking Glasses

I don't know about you, but ever since quarantine started I've been getting horrible headaches.  Like everybody else, my screen time has gone way up.  All of our tasks are now online, and we are working with pen and paper less and less.  We used to be able to take a break by talking to our friends but now - you guessed it - we need a screen to do that.

Screens can have a major effect on our eyes due to blue light.  The blue light rays penetrate all the way to the retina.  This results in headaches, migraines, and over a long period of time can lead to cell damage.  Blue light may also be the reason you are having trouble falling asleep and staying asleep at night.  One day while I was working, I got a headache so bad that I couldn't see the keys on my laptop.  That's when I knew it was time to find a solution.

After some digging around on Amazon, I found these glasses that claimed to block blue light rays.  I thought, well I'll try them and even if they don't work I can take cute Instagram pics in them, right?  Now, I basically live in these glasses!  They are so cute and l saw improvements literally within the first 10 minutes of wearing them.  No more headaches and I look super smart with them on!  I picked up the Livho 2 Pack Blue Light Blacking Glasses on Amazon in Black Matte and Leopard.  Get them on sale now for less than $20 and say goodbye to quarantine headaches!

A Journal

I know it sounds cliche and dumb but trust me on this one!  Getting motivated is hard, especially when your bed is right there, waiting for you to snuggle up in it.  That's where the journal comes in.

At the beginning of each day, I make a list of every single thing I want to accomplish today.  And I mean every single thing.  Any notepad or journal should work.  Instead of writing “clean the house”, I might write “empty dishwasher”, “pick up dirty clothes”, “make my bed”, and “mop the floors”.  This way a big task is broken up and seems more achievable.  Plus, crossing more tasks off your list allows you to reward yourself more frequently.  This accomplished energy will turn into motivation and eventually your whole list will be crossed off!

When you're home and in isolation, even the smallest of tasks seem pretty big.  Stop feeling guilty about taking it easy, and start rewarding yourself for the small things.  They add up and I promise they will pay off!

A Laptop Stand

Some days my desk is the couch, and that's just how it is.  However, I’ve started to notice that my laptop isn't exactly agreeing with my throw blankets.  I’m not kidding- I'm lucky they haven’t started a fire or spontaneously combusted!  I knew there was one solution, a laptop stand!

These things seriously make working a breeze!  It's so handy to have a slanted surface for typing.  I use the AmazonBasics Ventilated Laptop Stand both on my desk, and while I’m working on the couch.  This stand offers an adjustable and sturdy base without breaking the bank.  It fits 13-inch laptops and has a padded lip to keep your computer in place.

The RAINBEAN Foldable Laptop Table is also a great option.  This stand is a bit larger if you're looking to set your drink, notebook, or utensils next to your laptop while you work.

A Mouse

I've been a trackpad user all my life.  I'm comfortable using trackpads and they never seemed to bother me.  That was until I dabbled in the idea of a real, grown-up mouse.

I ordered the Macally 3 Button USB Optical Mouse from Amazon (they seriously have everything!).  I was pleasantly shocked at how easy it was to set up!  This is a great option if you're looking for something low tech and cost-effective that will get the job done.  Simply plug the USB into your laptop and you're done!

This mouse is compatible with Macs, Macbooks, and Windows PCs.  It has both right and left clickers as well as a smooth scrolling wheel.  I love the sleek white design and it will fit in perfectly with any setup or space!

A Good Old-Fashioned Calendar

After 36 days in quarantine, every day starts to feel like groundhog day.  Same things, just different days.  When you don't have a plan or even any idea what day it is, motivation is hard to find and zoom calls are really easy to miss.

I start each month by filling out my good old-fashioned calendar.  Yup, like the kind you write on and hang up on your wall.  When typing things down into your phone calendar they can get lost, mixed up, set for the wrong time, and stored away (I know we've all set an alarm for 7 PM instead of 7 AM).  Plus, it's scientifically proven that if you physically write something down, you are more likely to manifest it and make it happen.

The Wood Frame Chalkboard Calendar by UBrands will keep you on track and help you to never miss an online meeting again.  It is erasable and can be personalized for each month! I like to keep mine right above my desk so I can start each day by looking at my required plans.  Then I know where I have time for extra chores and activities like cleaning or reading my book.

From all of us at Team Simply Lioness, we want to remind you to check in on your family and friends while in isolation.  Taking this time to work on yourself is great, but you should never feel pressured to overwork.  We believe in you, and we will get through this if we all work together.
