What’s in My Bag?: 10 Beauty Essentials to Have With You at ALL Times
Ah, the infamous two-minute ladies room panic. We’ve all done it before. None of us are proud of it. But hey, it happens to the best of us, right?
If you have no clue what I’m talking about, let me explain.
You’re on a first date run to the restroom to freshen up but your only hope is a glittery lip gloss that's been hiding in the bottom of your purse since 2012. Or say you have 10 minutes to get from the gym to your 8 a.m. psych class and you forgot a change of clothes. Or maybe your S.O. asks you to dinner with his parents in a few hours. You don't have time to run home, so what do you do? Trust me honey, a bent bobby pin and some chapstick isn't going to get you very far.
Don’t be ashamed, darling. In the quick guide, we will go over the top 12 products you NEED in your at all times to hopefully avoid the ladies room panic for good.
1. Blotting Paper
Blotting paper has been a staple in my bag since high school -- especially since I have naturally oily skin. If you've never used it before, blotting paper simply picks up any excess sweat and oil from the surface of the skin. This gets rid of unwanted shine and post workout “glow”.
2. A Hair Tie
If you have hair, it's inevitable that you're going to need a hair tie at some point. And if for some reason you don’t need it, I promise you have a friend who will. No matter if you're a scrunchie girl, a phone cord lover, an elastic fanatic, or a good old black hair tie user, you must keep one of these with you at all times.
3. The Makeup Trinity
When bringing makeup along with me, I like to keep it to 3 products. As a “no makeup” makeup wearer the items I always have with me are mascara, a lipstick or tinted lip balm, and a cheek stick. This helps cut down on clutter in my bag and keeps my trip to the girls room quick. Find your 3 must haves and you’ll be set!
Mascara is the one product I cannot live without -- it’s my right hand man, if you will. She takes my eyes from “holy crap it’s early” to “I’ve never been more awake” in approximately 30 seconds.
Want to look like you spent an hour on your makeup but IRL you spent 5 minutes? Lipstick, baby, lipstick. Adding a color to the lips never fails to pull a look together in no time. I like to stick to lighter shades, but if you like your deep mattes, go for it, queen.
Cheek sticks are great because you don't need to carry around a brush to use them. I tend to reach for bronzers as my skin has very pink undertones, but blush sticks are a perfect option as well. Adding a pop of warmth to the cheeks makes you look more awake and youthful -- who doesn't need that?
***Pro Tip: Keeping travel sized products in your purse will save space!
4. Breath Strips
Ok, so the dinner date went amazing but you made the not-so-smart choice of ordering the spaghetti and garlic bread. You could pop a piece of gum in, but he (or she) might see you fiercely chewing it, and you don’t want them to get the wrong idea, right? Breath strips are here to save the day! Toss in one of these bad boys and watch it dissolve instantly while making your breath minty fresh. You’ll thank me later.
This is a no brainer. Smell good, look good, feel good. Enough said.
6. Jewelry of Some Sort
Let’s use my example from before -- you're going to meet his parents. Throwing on your favorite piece of jewelry takes your outfit from eh to classy with almost no effort. A nice set of hoops or a dainty ring are my go-tos. Avoid necklaces, as they tend to get tangled easily.
7. Nail File
Ugh -- nobody likes dealing with a broken nail. It is truly one of the worst feelings in the world. Plus, don't even get me started on how a jagged nail can get stuck on your clothes or even worse, your favorite sweater. Nail file? Check.
Excuse me for using the same scenario but well, I’m going to anyways. You run to the bathroom on that first date and oh no! -- you have a nice piece of leafy green wedged between your teeth. Don’t worry though, you read this guide and you just happen to have put a flosser in your bag. You go, girl.
9. Dry Shampoo
If you don't have dry shampoo in your purse right now then girl, you are missing out! Avoid the post gym greasy bun and use dry shampoo instead. The travel section at your local department store is bound to have a few bag-size options to choose from.
10. A Safety Pin
The last and final must-have item is a safety pin. We will be having no fashion disasters here, sweetie! Plus, just like a hair tie, a safety pin is one of those things where if you don't need it, you’ll always have a friend who will.
So, there you are. If there's anything I’ve missed or a specific item that you always have, let me know below! For now, share this post with your friends and together let's end the ladies room panic once and for all!
See you next Simply Sunday, loves.
